Get out and find ...the country. And ourselves. -William Least Heat Moon I was born in in the heart of Flyover Country, Great Bend, Kansas. My parents were raised in the Kansas Flint Hills. I was raised in Kansas, Texas and Missouri. I spent twelve years living in Arkansas and became a freelance photographer traveling and working throughout Middle America from Minnesota to Texas. Color me biased, but Flyover Country is the real America. Our sunrises and sunsets can be turned into original paintings every day. On our prairies, you can see for miles under a canopy of blue. Our valleys are lush and green, and our hills are steep. Our rivers and lakes are the best in the world. We can grow anything in flyover country, livestock, crops, wildlife and strong healthy children. Even though they are disappearing fast you can still find rustic barns, giant grain elevators, old fashioned windmills and farmers working the soil from dawn to dusk. People tell me they hate to drive through flyover country because it’s so boring. I’m willing to bet these travelers rarely get far off the interstates to see the real rural America, explore our smaller highways and drive the main streets of our quaint towns. It's also why I like to paint flyover country, to capture Middle America so viewers can see what they may be missing. https://www.garrymcmichael.com
