Paula Ann Ford showed on Facebook how she resolved the problem of how to mount pastel boards on easels designed to hold thick canvas media. Since I also paint on masonite boards I thought I’d show the method I use. The First method is simply a couple screws mounted to the edge of the easels cross arms. Works great if you work with the same standard sizes. The photos below are pretty much self explanatory. I used this method for several years on both the top and bottom easel cross-arms. |

I still use two screws on the top, but I have improved the system by adding a “T-Track to the easel's bottom cross-arm. The two knobs attached to the T-Track can be spread out for horizontal panoramas or moved close together for narrow vertical formats. The system is very stable and inexpensive – about 15 bucks. Installation is easy – just screw the T-Track to the front of your bottom cross-arm. Add a couple screws to the top cross-arm but let them stick out about 1/4" (6mm). T-Track can be found in woodworking supply stores. You can find it at the two websites listed below. A two-foot track sells for $11.00. Small knobs about a buck each. You can find it at Rockler Woodworking and Woodcraft. |

This system also works great when painting on canvas boards for oils. |
